Latest version of WordPress always comes with better security. That’s why, it is essential to install the latest version of WordPress in your website. From Admin Dashboard
This is one of the easiest method to check WordPress version. To check WordPress version, login to your site admin dashboard. And Go to Admin > Updates, then you will see the WordPress version you are using in your website as shown in fig below.
But if you are using WordPress Multisite network, you can’t see WordPress version from admin dashboard.
This is another method to check the WordPress version. By this method, you can check WordPress version of your site easily. During WordPress installation, a readme.html file is added in the website’s root folder. If you have not disabled this file from accessing, you can access it by adding readme.html at the end of the site’s URL such as www.mustbeweb.com/readme.html. With this web address, you can see easily your WordPress version. But this method can be used to check the version of all the WordPress site.
In this way, you can easily find the WordPress version of your website and other’s sites.
This is another method to check WordPress version you are using. To check WordPress version
- Visit your website
- Right click on any empty area on the screen
- Select View Page Source from browser menu.
Upon clicking on page source, you will see site’s source code. Then, Press CTRL+F and then search for ‘generator’. Just right of the generator, you will see the content=”WordPress 4.5.3″. This is the WordPress version of website.
In this way, you can easily find the WordPress version of your website.
By generator and readme methods, WordPress version is made public. And everyone knows the which WordPress is being used. Since WordPress is open source content management system,many hackers are targeting WordPress websites. When the hackers find the security hole on certain WordPress version and if you are using that version of WordPress, your website will be on target of hackers. That’s why, it would be wise not to make WordPress version public.
During WordPress installation,readme.html file is added. So it has to be removed from root directory of your website. And similarly, you have to remove version number of your WordPress by inserting certain code so that hackers would not know which version of WordPress you are using.
