Backup and Restore WordPress Site with UpdraftPlus Plugin
Step 1. Install and Activate Plugin
In the first step, installing “UpdraftPlus Plugin” can be done searching for “UpdraftPlus” via “WordPress Dashboard > Plugins > Add New” as shown below.
Step 2. Backup WordPress with UpdraftPlus Plugin
After installing the plugin, go to Dashboard > Settings > UpdraftPlus Backups and click on the UpdraftPlus Backups tab. You will see the plugin UpdraftPlus Backup/Restore page in your screen as shown below.
By default, UpdraftPlus stores backups locally on the server. To use a remote storage location go to Settings tab. In the Choose your remote storage list box, select where you want to store your backup files. Depending on the storage location you choose, there are additional configuration options that enable you to set up the remote connection. For example, for an Amazon S3 connection, you must provide your key information. There are many additional settings on the Settings tab that enable you to precisely control backups, storage locations, and scheduling. For more information about these settings, click the FAQs tab. Then click Save Changes button to complete the settings.
To create a backup immediately, click the Current Status tab, and then click Backup Now button to start the backup of the files and database.
When you click on the Backup Now button, a PopUp appears in the window asking you to select either database or files or both to include in the backup. After selecting click on Backup Now button to start the backup process.
The Current Status tab will display the progress bar of the backup that you just launched.
When the backup process is completed the backup file will appear in the Current Status tab with the download link to download the backup file.
Step 3. Restore WordPress with UpdraftPlus Plugin
If you have a problem with your site, go to Existing Backups tab and click the “Restore” button. You will be given a list of backups that Updraft has and you can select whether or not to restore the database, theme files, plugin files, uploads, or all of the above. Once you select those, click “Restore” again.`
In order to backup your files and database click on Database button under Backup data to backup your database to the selected folder in your computer. You can even delete the backup from your web server by clicking on Delete from your web server button.
When you click on Download to your computer button a Pop-Up box appears in your screen which helps you to download the GZIP file in the Downloads folder in your Computer. Select the Save File option and click on OK button to start the download.
When the GZIP file is completely downloaded go to Computer > Local Disk (C:) > Users > PC Name > Downloads and you will see your Database backup .gz file in the Downloads folder in your computer.
