Apart from adding watermark to the images uploaded, Scissors and Watermark Plugin adds some extra features and functionalities like cropping, resizing and rotating of the images. Unlike other WordPress plugins, it extends the media settings page for these image enhancements along with the watermark configuration. It improves the quality of image uploaded by resampling it to the requested size using bilinear filtering which in turn reduces the time taken to transfer (upload) the image. The plugin supports custom image sizes and both the automatic as well as manual watermarking of images is possible. In this post, I will show steps to add watermark using Scissors and Watermark plugin in WordPress.
Add watermark using Scissors and Watermark Plugin in WordPress
Step 1. Plugin Installation
Installing the plugin is straight forward. Simply go to Plugins > Add New. Then search for the keyword “scissors and watermark” and click on the “Install Now” button.
Click on “Activate Plugin” to activate it.
Step 2. Plugin Settings
After the plugin activated, you can set the configurations of the plugin through the Media Settings page.
Click on Settings > Media. On the Media Settings page, there are options for configuring image sizes, uploading files, cropping and watermarking.
Now, you can specify or change the settings of the plugin at media settings page. First of all, there is option for image sizes. Here, images can be automatically resized by setting maximum width and maximum height of the images. You can crop the thumbnail, medium, large or full sized images to exact dimensions and choose adaptive mode which limits the width of the landscape and height of the portrait images. In these settings if width and heights is set to 0, then image resizing gets disabled. Uploading files has the default WordPress settings i.e., the uploaded images or files path can be organized into month and year based folders. Then comes the settings for cropping images. You can set the default aspect ratio with the options maintaining original aspect ratio. Another option to set the aspect ratio is either specifying custom aspect ratio by locking aspect ratio to user defined ratio or not to lock aspect ratio.
On the Watermarking settings, there is an option for automatically applying watermark functionality to image sizes specified i.e. large, medium, thumbnail and full. In this option if any of the image sizes are set to automatically watermarked after the image uploaded, the full size option at media settings page must be checked. Then image for watermarking can be selected by browsing the image with select image button. Next option lets the user resizing the watermark image size. He/she can limit the watermark size either to a defined percentage of the image area or simply choose not to resize the image. You can set the horizontal alignment of the watermark image to one of the three alternatives, i.e. left, center or right. Similarly vertical alignment of the watermark can be set to top, middle or bottom.
In this way, the Scissors and Watermark WordPress Plugin is simple yet robust plugin that extends the normal features of a watermarking plugin and enhances the image watermark in terms of quality and time taken to transfer the data inside WordPress framework.
