Add Social Sharing Button in WordPress with Social Media Feather
Step 1. Install and Activate Plugin
In the first step, installing “Social Media Feather Plugin” can be done searching for “Social Media Feather” via “WordPress Dashboard > Plugins > Add New” as shown below.
Step 2. Social Media Feather Plugin Settings
After installing the plugin, go to Dashboard > Settings > Social Media and click on the Social Media tab. You will see Social Media Feather settings. The WordPress social media sharing offered by the plugin includes all major social sharing providers like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Reddit, Pinterest, Tumblr, Linkedin and even E-mail. It will show social buttons that your users can click to share to facebook or tweet your posts and pages on your site or submit it to reddit and google plus and all other social sharing networks. - Use Shortlinks
Placing a check-mark in this check box allows for shortened URLs to be used when sharing content (if a shortening plugin is installed). For a list of URL Shortener Plugins, navigate to Plugins > Add New and enter URL Shortener in the Search Plugins text-box.
- Share Full URL
Placing a check-mark in this check box determines whether to always share the full URL or just the post permalink.
- Right To Left Layout
You need to place a check-mark in this check box if you have a right-to-left site layout and icons show spacing issues.
- Shortcodes In Widgets
In order to allow Shortcodes in Widgets you need to place a check-mark in this check box.
- Show Credit
This option displays a small icon with a link to the Social Media Feather page. The default value is checked.
- Default Message
Enter/modify the default message to use when sharing content.
These settings affect automatically appending social buttons to post contents in your website.
- Display Sharing Buttons
Place a check-mark in this check box to automatically append Sharing buttons to your posts. If you want to add Sharing buttons to specific posts only, remove the checkmark.
- Share Buttons Position
From the drop-down list select the position of your Sharing buttons. The default value is After Post.
- Sharing Single Posts
If a check-mark is placed in this check box, Sharing buttons are only displayed on single posts/pages and not on archive pages. For example, the Sharing buttons will not be displayed on: blog/category/tag/author pages.
- Share Post Types
Select the Post types where you want the Share buttons to appear.
Note: Press CTRL+Click to select multiple options.
- Share Prefix Markup
Enter text to be displayed before the Share buttons.
- Share Postfix Markup
Enter text to be displayed after the Share buttons.
- Display Follow Buttons
Place a check-mark in this check box to automatically append Follow buttons to your posts. If you want to add Follow buttons to specific posts only, remove the checkmark.
- Follow Buttons Position
From the drop-down list select the position of your Follow buttons. The default value is After Post.
- Follow Single Posts
If a check-mark is placed in this check box, Follow buttons are only displayed on single posts/pages and not on archive pages. For example, the Follow buttons will not be displayed on: blog/category/tag/author pages.
- Follow Post Types
Select the Post types where you want the Follow buttons to appear.
Note: Press CTRL+Click to select multiple options.
- Follow Before Share
Place a checkmark in this check box if you want the Follow buttons to appear before the Share buttons.
- Follow Prefix Markup
Enter text to be displayed before the Follow buttons.
- Follow Postfix Markup
Enter text to be displayed after the Follow buttons.
- Prefix Markup
Enter text to be displayed before the buttons markup.
- Separator Markup
Enter the Separator for the markup. Notice a line break was entered here.
- Postfix Markup
Enter text to be displayed after the buttons markup.
Customize Look settings customize the look & feel of the Social Media Feather plugin. The social media icons are stylized in this option so that the icons matches the website design.

- Icon Size
Here you can select the size in pixels for the icons from the drop-down list. For high resolution displays like Retina the maximum size is 64×64.
- Icon Resolution
From the drop-down list select what icon resolutions will be used. Single might make the icons slightly blurry on low resolution displays. Double will always look the best but will consume more bandwidth.
- Icon Spacing
Enter the spacing in pixels between the icons.
- Buttons in Container
From the drop-down list select whether or not to wrap the buttons in a container. This will affect how the buttons are rendered.
- Buttons Container Type
Selecting Basic from the drop-down list should not affect rendering, while Block should display the buttons in their own row. Selecting Block might not look the way you want if you’re using Prefix or Postfix markup.
- Share Buttons Alignment
From the drop-down list select an alignment for Share buttons. This will enforce Buttons Container Type – Block and may not work reliably on all themes.
- Follow Buttons Alignment
From the drop-down list select an alignment for Follow buttons. This will enforce Buttons Container Type – Block and may not work reliably on all themes.
- Extra Styles
Enter additional styles to further customize Social Media Feather.
In this area you can customize social sharing and following providers for Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Reddit, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Mail Share / Mail Follow, RSS, YouTube, Vimeo, Instagram, Flickr, Foursquare. You have to fill out the social media account links, ID’s, username and more in the respective blocks.
After completing all the setting, now click on Save Changes button to save all your settings for the plugin.
Step 3. Adding Social Media Feather in Widget
For adding social icons in widget, go to Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets. A new screen will appear where a new widget Acurax Social Icons is added in the Available Widgets section. Simply drag and drop the widget in the Widget Area section. Then click on the widget to edit.
